Will travel for photo op!

Last year my husband surprised me — the night before, no less — with a surprise trip to my favorite city, Pittsburgh. We lived there for about a year and a half about seven years back, so having the opportunity to go back to the city I fell in love with for a weekend was too enticing to pass up. My first thought was, “Ooh, I better make sure my camera battery is charged!” If you’ve never been to Pittsburgh, or don’t know much about its geography, you should know that it’s built into the side of the western Pennsylvania mountains, it intertwines around and beyond three rivers, and has over 400 bridges and well over a hundred tunnels. Needless to say, there are some AMAZING sights to take in, and there was no way I was going there for a weekend without my camera in tow!

DSC_0873 One thing I wish I had brought with me for the trip was my Quantaray tripod. It was a gift from my best friend for my 24th birthday, and at that point I had only used it on a few occasions. I really wish I had taken it to the Dusquene Incline, so that my husband and I could have gotten a nice “us” shot with a backdrop of the Pittsburgh cityscape. However, that’s not as bad as the beach trip my husband and I took two years ago, when I forgot to bring along my camera’s battery charger! Thank god the battery lasted through the four day, 800+ photo trip… but by the end of the trip it was getting low, and I wound up taking less photos than I wanted to in order to conserve.

So, learn from my mistakes, and make sure to take the following with you on any kind of extended trip:

  • camera (obviously!)
  • lenses
  • memory card — plus extra cards!
  • battery & battery charger
  • tripod for those great shots of you and your significant other or family
